James leads PwC’s Vancouver Indirect Tax group and PwC’s National Indirect Tax Recovery Review group.  He has practised in the area of sales tax since 1989.  His areas of specialty include GST/HST, QST, and provincial sales tax relating to retail, cross-border transactions, technology and life sciences companies, and public sector bodies.  

James routinely provides advice to his clients on all matters of Canadian sales tax compliance and recovery; provides assistance with government audits and assessments; and assists clients in making voluntary disclosures where their sales tax obligations have not been met. 

James has presented, led workshops, and sat on the organizing committee for the CPA Canada Commodity Tax Symposium; has been part of the faculty team for the CPA Canada In-depth GST/HST Course; and co-developed and co-presented CPA Canada’s Advanced GST/HST Course for Public Sector Bodies.

Prior to joining PwC, James was employed by the Department of Finance during the pre-implementation of the GST and by Revenue Canada following GST implementation.
